Q: Why is it called DAD?

A: DAD is the app to cure Digital Disorganisation – DAD.

Q: What does DAD mean by ‘digital disorganisation’?

A: We have sub-sets of our data everywhere, but no central place to find it all – this creates the significant issue of data disorganisation.

From busy parents through to silver surfers and students, we are all suffering from digital disorganisation. As we accumulate more gadgets and register with more social networks, the problem is only set to worsen. DAD is the solution for this digital disorganisation.

(Note: A survey by Opinion Matters of over 1,000 people in June 2010 indicated that over 50% had 10 or more gadgets for creating and storing digital data.)

Q: What is meant by ‘stuff’?

A: ‘Stuff’ can be any type of digital data that individuals, families, groups or organisations may want to create, store or share such as photos, music, documents, contact details, etc.

Q: What is included in DAD?

A: DAD functions include:

  • Rich media index (which is extensible and allows cross-referencing)
  • Smart search (using metadata and user created tags/data)
  • Photo viewer and organiser
  • Local network discovery and user to user connections
  • Private, secure index and/or file sharing (manual or automatic with user created rules)
  • Open API for third party developers to leverage universal DAD index.

Q: How much does DAD cost?

A: DAD is available for an initial free month trial, but then costs from as little as £2.49 ($3.49, or €2.99 at 28/6/2010) per month for four computers. A free ‘lite’ version is also available, offering core functionality.

Q: Does DAD have access to my personal data?

A: DAD resides on your computer and your index is there too; no one can access either your index or your data unless you actively choose to share it with them.

DAD Solutions Ltd, which owns DAD, does not look at, store or use your data, and therefore can’t use any data now or in the future. We believe that your data should be owned by you and by having DAD run as software on your computer you maintain 100% control & total privacy. It is never held in the cloud or by DAD Solutions Ltd.

Q: How does DAD work in terms of users?

A: DAD offers four access codes per purchase. These can be shared with nominated friends and family even if located elsewhere, but these are linked to the original licence agreement. The computers using DAD do not have to be directly networked.
