Many of the DAD support features are self-service which means you can do it yourself. We'll be adding lots more information over the coming weeks and months and this section will be a great resource for customers and developers alike. We also have comprehensive FAQs available to help you with any questions.

Once the trial period is over, the trial version remains active but some functionality can no longer be accessed. For example, your own Index data will remain, but you will only be able to request files from one other DAD and you won't be able to receive files.

A: DAD is a tool which allows for simple home networking and sharing, and allows private networking and sharing with friends and family over the internet. It allows you to seamlessly share your data, easily and securely, and allows you to make more use of the data with easy access to a rich set of tag data.
A: DAD provides a number of key benefits.
DAD allows you to share information and files within your home very easily. No more emailing files to each other, sharing via USB stick, or worse, not sharing at all. If you have more than one computer connected to a home network (e.g. your wifi router) then DAD can make use of this to allow you to share files and information about those files.
DAD keeps you in control of your files and information. You decide who can see the information and with whom you can share files. It's private and secure.
DAD also allows you to privately share files and information across the web, with friends and family. With DAD it's now easy to automatically share those holiday photos of the kids with their grandparents or automatically share a video of the local rugby match with the rest of the team.
DAD provides easy access to a rich set of tags that you can include for your files. This makes it really easy to search for and find files that previously have been hard to locate, such as photos and music files.
A: No. However, don’t worry if Adobe Air or Java is not installed on your machine. Our downloader will install these for you before installing DAD.
A: DAD works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Support for Mac OSX Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard is planned in the future.
A: DAD has not been developed for or tested on Linux and we do not currently support that platform.
A: When purchasing DAD you will receive four licence keys, so you can install on your main computer and on three other machines. These don't have to be in your home, so you could give one or more licences to other members of your family in different households, for example.
A: In general, if a firewall or anti-virus software reports an attempt to open a port when DAD is running then you should allow this, as this is how DAD allows you to share files and data. If you inadvertently did not allow DAD this access, then to enable sharing you will have to go to your firewall or anti-virus software control panel and allow DAD access.
A: Tutorial videos are available on the Support page of our website to help you learn to use DAD. Further help is available within the application.
A: The first scan and index of files and folders generally takes the longest due to the volume of files being indexed. The speed of subsequent indexing is much faster as DAD continually looks for new and modified files in the folders that it is monitoring.
A: DAD is an installed application, rather than being hosted on an external server. This means your data and the data you share is not held by us, but rather is held on your own computers and those with which you have decided to share information. The only time DAD holds data at all on an external server is when you send data to different networks using the DAD webservice. The data is held until the DAD users you are sharing the data with have downloaded it, at which point the data will be deleted from the external server.
A: Yes. You can use your computer normally, with DAD performing its scanning and indexing in the background. You shouldn't notice any effect on performance.
A: Restart your computer. If this doesn't rectify the problem then please contact the DAD team.
A: Please visit the Rule screen in the application on the other computer. Please ensure that it has allowed your DAD computer to share its index.
A: A lot depends on the speed of your home network and the amount of work it is doing at the time. If the network is being heavily used (perhaps someone on the network is streaming a video) then the files transferred by DAD will take longer to arrive. Likewise, if you transfer a large number of files or large files, they will take longer than a smaller number or smaller files. However, you can leave DAD to get on with it in the background.
A: Yes. DAD will store the files to be sent and the request messages. The next time the DAD computer joins your home network when your DAD computer is also available, the files will be sent and requested automatically.
A: You need to change the Index sharing and file sharing settings in the application's Rules screen to remove the sharing privileges you gave to the DAD you now want to de-authorise.
A: An ongoing series of updates are included in the subscription. From time to time, when you open the application, you'll be prompted to download an update.
A: The DAD user interface is built on Adobe’s Air platform, to provide a compelling user experience. The core of DAD is a Java application which performs the heavy duty work of indexing files and sharing data.
