Yes we offer a free trial version, which has the full functionality of the paid for version, to enable you to download and try DADapp for yourself, without any risk. Once the trial period is over, the trial version remains active but some functionality can no longer be accessed. For example, your own Index data will remain, but you will only be able to request files from one other DADapp and you won't be able to receive files. The free trial normally lasts for 30 days but, as a special launch promotion, this is extended to 5 full years for those that request a free trial before 12:00 UK time on Monday 16th January 2012.
Your licence key is sent automatically and should arrive within a few minutes (but may take up to an hour). If it doesn't arrive, please check your junk email folder. If it is not there, then you can simply recover it by select Help>Recover Licence Key, above. If you still encounter problems, please contact us and we will make sure you will get your licence as soon as possible.
You can pay in GBP, EUR or USD.
We offer secure credit and debit card payment through our providers, Optimal Payments. Alternatively, you can use our PayPal facility, which also enables payment by credit card without the need to use or create a PayPal account.
No, any UK/EU VAT is already included in the price you see.
You will be charged an annual subscription.
We do not see, access or store your credit card, debit card or PayPal account details. Such information is input directly into the systems of Optimal Payments or PayPal via a secure encrypted link during the payment process.
You will receive reminders before your licence expires to make sure you have the opportunity to renew. Should your licence expire, the application will remain active but it will no longer be possible to access all the functionality. For example, your own Index data will remain, but you will only be able to request files from one other DADapp and you won't be able to receive files.
Please contact us for assistance.

DADapp is a tool which allows for simple home networking and sharing, and allows private networking and sharing with friends and family over the internet. It allows you to seamlessly share your data, easily and securely, and allows you to make more use of the data with easy access to a rich set of data tags.
DADapp provides a number of key benefits. DADapp allows you to share information and files within your home very easily. No more emailing files to each other, sharing via USB stick, or worse, not sharing at all. If you have more than one computer connected to a home network (e.g. your wifi router) then DADapp can make use of this to allow you to share files and information about those files. DADapp keeps you in control of your files and information. You decide who can see the information and with whom you can share files. It's private and secure. DADapp also allows you to privately share files and information across the web, with friends and family. With DADapp it's now easy to automatically share those holiday photos of the kids with their grandparents or automatically share a video of the local rugby match with the rest of the team. DADapp provides easy access to a rich set of tags that you can include for your files. This makes it really easy to search for and find files that previously have been hard to locate, such as photos and music files.
No. However, don’t worry if Adobe Air or Java is not installed on your machine. Our downloader will install these for you before installing DADapp.
DADapp works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OSX Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion.
DADapp has not been developed for or tested on Linux and we do not currently support that platform.
You can purchase DADapp licences individually or in multi-licence packs. Each DADapp computer needs a licence but these don’t have to be in your home, so you could give one or more licences to other members of your family in different households, for example.
Yes. You must have the necessary administrator permissions to be able to install or use DADapp.
In general, if a firewall or anti-virus software reports an attempt to open a port when DADapp is running then you should allow this, as this is how DADapp allows you to share files and data. If you inadvertently did not allow DADapp this access, then to enable sharing you will have to go to your firewall or anti-virus software control panel and allow DADapp access.
Help is available within the application or here. In the future, it is also intended to make tutorial videos available on our website.
DADapp is an installed application, rather than being hosted on an external server. This means your data and the data you share is not held by us, but rather is held on your own computers and those with which you have decided to share information. The only time DADapp holds data at all on an external server is when you send data to different networks using the DADapp webservice. The data is held until the DADapp users you are sharing the data with have downloaded it, at which point the data will be deleted from the external server. Generally you will be sharing data with other DADapp users on a User-to-User (U2U) basis, in which case data passes directly and is not held on any server.
Yes. You can use your computer normally, with DADapp performing its scanning and indexing in the background. There may be some impact on your computer's performance during scanning and indexing, dependent on the volume of files you have selected and your machine's specification.
Please restart DADapp. If this doesn't rectify the problem then please contact the DADapp support team. Making a note of any error message you receive will help us to determine the cause of the issue.
A lot depends on the speed of your home network and the amount of work it is doing at the time. If the network is being heavily used (perhaps someone on the network is streaming a video) then the files transferred by DADapp will take longer to arrive. Likewise, if you transfer a large number of files or large files, they will take longer than a smaller number or smaller files. However, you can leave DADapp to get on with it in the background.
We currently recommend a maximum file size of 50MB. This is likely to be increased in the near future.
Theoretically any type you would like to share and common file types are already included in the default media type list. However, more unusual file types will need to be added within General Settings>Media Settings>Edit Media Types
Currently there is no indication as to when the indexing has complete. However, when indexing begins files will start to appear in the User Interface allowing you to start sharing.
Win XP: C:/Documents & Settings/Username/DAD/Inbox. Win Vista: C:/Username/DAD/Inbox. Win 7: C:/Username/DAD/Inbox. OSX: Finder/Username/DAD/Inbox
We are aware that index loading time can take too long for certain users, dependant on the volume of data and machine specification, and this issue will shortly be addressed in an update to the application. In the meantime, clicking on the manual sync icon (located at the bottom left of the application) can speed up the process.
This is unlikely to happen. However, if it has then a good solution is for you to send a DADapp invite to your friend. If you're still having issues then please contact support.
You can update your index at anytime by clicking on the manual sync icon, located at the bottom left of the application.
Please restart DADapp. If the problem persists please contact support.
DADapps can take up to an hour to appear on your network, dependent on network speed and a number of other factors, although normally the process is much quicker. If you are still waiting after an hour, please contact support.
A smart collection is simply a group of files that is collected together and automatically updated, based on criteria that you set. Criteria can include, file type, location, file date etc. You will see the full list of criteria when you create or amend a smart collection.
Please do not be concerned. The message is PayPal’s way of advising you that you are moving from the secure connection (https) used during the payment process to a normal (http) connection. Simply press “Send” to return to the DADapp website.
The DADapp user interface is built on Adobe’s Air platform, to provide a compelling user experience. The core of DADapp is a Java application which performs the heavy duty work of indexing files and sharing data.
